Everything is a Remix Part 4 [Video]

Posted on 22. Feb, 2012 by in Blog, Remixes

Remixing is a folk art but the techniques involved — collecting material, combining it, transforming it — are the same ones used at any level of creation. You could even say that everything is a remix.

New York-based filmmaker, Kirby Ferguson created a interesting four part web series called “Everything Is A Remix”.

Remix your life with MadPad – Remix Your Life – Smule, Apple’s official iPhone and iPad App of the Week. Turn everyday sights and sounds like your car, an empty soda can, or your friends into the ultimate percussive instrument. Who would have thought everyday life could be so musical?

See it to believe it – watch a 1991 Honda transform into a mad beat boxing video soundboard.

It’s easy to create music from anything!

This is my first video I made with the app. It was created with some clips that came with the app and clips that I downloaded from other users. It would be cool if they added a sequencer.

CREATE VIDEO SOUNDBOARDS FROM YOUR LIFE.
Oh the possibilities! Just aim and shoot to capture sounds all around you – your local café, car, kitchen, kids, cat, friends – MadPad magic will take care of the rest.

Note: MadPad is best experienced on iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Recording quality of iPhone 3GS is not optimal.

Without a video camera, you will not be able to record your own sets. However, you can still enjoy playing and sharing sets from the MadPad community!

MadPad is not fully compatible with the iOS “Voiceover” feature. If you don’t know what “Voiceover” is, then no need to worry.

Walking on Sunshine Remix

Posted on 30. Jul, 2010 by in Blog, Remixes

Here’s my mix of Walking On Sunshine. The verses have a dark rock sound that transitions to a reggae style chorus. The end is kind of a mess as there wasn’t anymore time to work on it. I uploaded the track within one minute of the deadline. Also this mix wasn’t mastered, so the volume is a little low.

Linkin Park’s Unreleased Single “The Catalyst” Remixed

Posted on 22. Jul, 2010 by in Blog, Musicians, Remixes

Here’s my version of Linkin Park’s The Catalyst – Linkin Park provided only about a minute of the vocals and a few other tracks. I only used the vocals and preformed, programed, produced and mixed the music with a new arrangement. Of course I never heard the original arrangement, so I guess it’s new. Enjoy !

Jason Moran “RFK In the Land of Apartheid” Remixed

Posted on 14. Jul, 2010 by in Blog, Musicians, Recording, Remixes

Jason Moran celebrates 10 years of recording with his trio “The BandWagon” this year with his new album from Blue Note Records, Ten, which droped on June 22nd. During the past 10 years, Jason has risen through the ranks of the jazz world from student at the Manhattan School of Music, to one of the most creative pianists on the scene today. Along with bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheen Waits, “The Bandwagon” has become one of the most enduring piano trios of our time.

Now Jason wants artist to embody the spirit of jazz and create a new version of his song “RFK In the Land of Apartheid”.

This is a quick mix I did. I only used the original drum track and add everything else.

My Remix of “Symphonies” by Dan Black feat. Kid Cudi

Posted on 04. Jul, 2010 by in Blog, Musicians, Recording, Remixes

Dan Black is one of the hottest alternative-pop stars to emerge from England in the past few years. His first single, “HYPNTZ” caused a sensation when it dropped, as it was a nod to Biggie Small’s “Hypnotize”, and Rihanna’s hit “Umbrella”. Dan built on this success with his current hit “Symphonies”, and he’s already invited Kid Cudi to jump on board to lay down some vocals.

In the same remix spirit, Dan asked artist to rework his song “Symphonies”, into something totally unique.

My production starts with a folky intro and ends with a short trippy electronic soundscape that could be two different songs entirely. For the bulk of the mix i added rock guitars, synths, acoustic drums, an 808 drum machine, a few extra vocals and orchestral sounds.

Also I never heard this song before I remixed it. After I did the mix I noticed that there where a few extra vocal tracks that I didn’t download.
I would have used them but it’s to late now.

Enjoy !

Posted on 01. Jul, 2010 by in Blog, Musicians, Recording, Remixes

Buzz Out Loud was looking for a remix of their theme song.

It had to have a distinct beginning, middle and end and run no longer than 30 seconds.

This is my BOL remix being played on Episode 1260, June 30 2010.

My Remix of Peter Gabriel’s “Games Without Frontiers”

Posted on 30. Jun, 2010 by in Blog, Musicians, Recording, Remixes

On ‘Scratch My Back,’ Peter Gabriel interprets songs by artists he admires: David Bowie, Paul Simon, Elbow, Bon Iver, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Arcade Fire, The Magnetic Fields, Randy Newman, Regina Spektor, Neil Young and Radiohead. Peter has taken the collaboration to new levels by asking these artists to reinterpret and perform their favourite Peter Gabriel song to be released as double A sides on iTunes. After the cycle is complete, all 12 reciprocal songs will have been unveiled via the Full Moon Club.

Peter is asking artist to join this exciting collaborative event. He wants you to “Scratch His Back” by covering the classic song “Games Without Frontiers.” Taking the stems from the 1980 hit and reimagine them in your own style. Peter Gabriel himself will be choosing one collaborator to be flown out to the UK to master the winning mix at his Real World Studios. The mix will be released as a double A side single, along with the original version of the song, through the Full Moon Club.

Here’s a quick remix I did. I wish I had a more time for this one.

I used the original vocals and one of the guitars, added the rest of the music, some vocals and increased the tempo. Enjoy !
